We all know or know of some one who is addicted to drugs or alcohol. Seems like each time you place your TV on a news channel you are getting the latest Government Study on who is addicted, what age range and of course all the dish on the big Government crack downs.
The saddest part of all this is that the people in pain, the users are never helped by all this attention. Locally we have a agency with its own Special Prosecutor called Operation Unite, which culls the local people and children into its own little narc party. Instead of talking about the economics of using drugs and alcohol they place their attention on prosecution. No one here gets any real help and the Kentucky economy especially in the southern part of the state is basically run on a Drug trade.
We need more people to actually care enough to want to help and I believe Narcanon is one group who wants to do just that, help. I read a current article about the costs of drug use for the user and it was really amazing to read that marijuana actually can cost a user as much as $260 a week! Some one addicted cocaine is going to end up spending as much as $100 a day, and a Meth user spends over $1000 a week!
One addiction that also needs a rapid response is the addiction to alcohol. This seems the be sliding into the ether simply because it is a legal drug, and most people ignore the fact that alcohol use is often times more dangerous to others than Marijuana. An alcohol addict can easily spend $600 or more a month on this habit, not to mention future costs in medical attention for all the breakdowns in body function.
This article is pretty interesting and I hope for more in-depth articles in the future.
