Have you had the occasion to see the movie with Hugh Jackman and Rachael Weisz, the Fountain? I have not cried so much since Steel Magnolias I am telling you. I know this movie is slightly old in Hollywood years but it just started running on cable not too long ago and I have had the compulsion to watch it over and over.
I love Rachael she can really act and in the role of Izzy/ Isabella she shines because this is the first time I can recall that she is not acting but reacting. The story line is breathtaking, simple even and I love that.
The idea that the Tree of Life will give and take is a given but the reasons Hugh's character does this search to save Izzy's life makes it seem so acceptable. You almost hate when that tree gets Tommy, it is as if you are on the search with him to save the Queen and after all he has been through, to become the tree, the life around him is so unfair.
The best part of this movie are when Tommy is in that star bubble traveling to the dying star Shebalba. This is where, according to the Aztec people you the dying person are sent to get a new life and also when Izzy is telling Tommy he has to finish the book she started.
The entire movie is chock full of surprises as far as imagery which I love and also in the twists historically. Really makes you rethink the whole Spanish Inquisition that is for sure.
The movie makes you so sad and yet so happy , because Izzy becomes comfortable with her travels to the next level of life but Tommy wont let go, not until the end. He has at my count three travels throughout time to learn that to love is to let go.
I highly suggest this movie if you're into romance movies but it is a thinking movie so be prepared to watch carefully. It is a must buy DVD for me.
