Greensburg Kansas, One Year Later.....

The Early ShowImage via WikipediaWhen I turned on the local CBS station on Monday to watch the Early Show ( I admit it, I am addicted for some reason) I was greeted with live shots of Dave Price the weather guy and Maggie Rodriguez one of the anchors in of all places, Greensburg Kansas! And the name of the week long show? Greensburg Rising.
On May 4th 2007 Greensburg Kansas was leveled by an F-5 Tornado, which destroyed 95 percent of the town.
Last year the Jericho Rangers worked very hard to get the people of Greensburg Kansas donations. Jeff Braverman of Nuts Online helped us by making it very easy to donate on his website, and he matched donations with the sale of nuts ( which the Jericho Fans were lobbing at CBS on both coasts during this time). The fans were able to raise over $20,000 for Greensburg. Here is the webpage at NutsOnline with all the info on the Fans donations as well as how NutsOnline is helping still. You can get tee shirts there for the Jericho Fans first campaign to save Jericho, and all proceeds go to Greensburg! Check this pic of one of the shirts out, pretty sweet:

After watching Monday's show and then Tuesdays show, seeing the awesome things being done in Greensburg, and seeing CBS bring truckloads of toys ( from FAO Schwarz in New York), diapers, books( from Scholastic and brought by Clifford the Big Red Dog) to the towns people - I am happy to know that Greensburg is finally rebuilding their lives along with the town.

Today, we got to see the High school filled with the students and townspeople in the new gymnasium. The boys Basketball team played each of their games last year as away games because the gym along with everything else was destroyed by the tornado. And the fans followed them. The result of their dedication was that they got all the way to the State Championships. They did not win that game, but they won so much more. Today, the Kansas University JayHawks paid a visit to the students, bringing not only congratulations to the team and town, but also KU clothing for the team and folks. Wilson Sporting Goods sent green basketballs Yes, I said green ! The ball is called the Rebound, and its the world first green ball. Wilson's also sent along other sporting equipment to the school and town. And check this out Jericho fans, the teams name? Rangers!!! Cool huh?

Also NAMM, the trade association for the international music products industry,
gave the school a to be decided amount check for money and equipment to get the music program on its feet.

CBS is also working on the playground for the kids. After the tornado this was the only toy left in the playground:
But CBS will have a brand new one all ready for the kids by the end of the week. The company who is working on this project is BNIM.
Associated with this weeks show is Renovation Nation, Steve Thomas ( of this old house fame and now with Renovation Nation) and Planet Green. Here is the web page for Planet Green which covers the rebuilding effort and is also where one can donate to help out.

Also, this week the people of Suffolk Virginia also suffered from Tornadoes, and they now need our help as well. So many efforts to help with, and so very little time or money to do so. It affects me to see all I could be doing to help, and knowing I am ineffective to do so.
Writing my blog is my only available help to anyone in need, I only hope and pray that someone reading this will find it in their hearts to do what they can for both Greensburg and for the people of Suffolk Virgina.
And finally... to CBS my sincerest thanks. No matter the issues we share in common about Jericho and viewer ratings, you brought so much to the people of Greensburg this week. I am very proud to say that because of a TV show you put on , I in my small way got to help the people of Greensburg alongside my fellow Jericho friends.

** note to a person named Bill Carter, who left the scripture Romans 12:2 written on the cement wall of someones storm shelter, thank you and God Bless all of the workers who have gone to Greensburg to help rebuild the town**
