Thomas Jefferson's vegetable garden
Today, with everyone finding themselves in a pinch money wise, growing a veggie garden is an awesome idea and one that has taken off. I saw on the news the other day that people growing gardens for food has jumped over 20% from last year!
I love to grow things, it is a fulfilling feeling to actually be active in your own survival. Growing a garden is not only great for the budget and fun it is a great thing to do as a family. The kids will love being involved and learning about where their food comes from as well as learning about nature itself.
Back in WWII there were Victory gardens that were the most important thing the families had for food and while we are not in that type of event it is still important that we learn to be self sufficient again, to not be dependent on Walmart ( whose fresh fruits and veggies suck anyway, always rotten and over priced ) and to be able to take some pride in the idea that we are doing for ourselves.
I was not able to start a garden this year for veggies as we have far too many cats and wildlife that stray onto my land but I do have dreams of lovely raised beds all over my property and next year it will come to fruition. I will be raising pumpkins for selling at Halloween time ( they cost over $4 at the store! ) and corn and cucumbers and tomatos, everything I can grow in my area I will.
I hope you and your family try growing a garden. It is easy, fun and worth it in the long run. Great exercise too!
